Creative culture is the backbone of Google

It is safe to say that Google is the company that has pioneered the Internet Era. It has extended its presence in every country in the world by catering to the preferences of practically all types of users.

This book answers the all-encompassing question of how Google works. Here are some of the things the book touches on:

Encourage a creative culture-

  • The way to attract intelligent, creative and highly capable people to your company lies in the culture of the organization, basically the values and principles on which your company is built on.
  • You should focus on building a strong culture that everybody aligns with and fully understands.
  • The culture manifests as a pattern of behaviour shared amongst employees.
  • Never allow the culture to be formed by accident. The idea is to carefully plan it and promote it throughout the organization.

Ask these questions while planning:

  • What does the company care about?
  • What do we believe in?
  • What do we want to be?
  • How do we want our company to handle decisions in the future?

Google's Culture:

  • Google does not have closed office spaces. They are open and crowded to encourage and maximize creative interaction.
  • Teams are not separated by function.
  • Ideas are judged on the basis of the merits of the subject.
  • New project teams are always small groups despite being created to serve millions of users.
  • Everything is based on performance and enthusiasm, not on experience or function. This works best for creative employees.
